You and Me and SRE: Customer-centric operations with Site Reliability Engineering
Site Reliability Engineering is an approach to operations which originated at Google and is rapidly gaining adoption in companies of all sizes.
In the SRE framework, service metrics are defined from a user point of view, with automation and communication prioritized as means to achieve consistently reliable user experiences. But what does that have to do with the rest of us?
This talk presents an introduction to SRE principles and terminology, illustrating how the alignment of systems administration with customer outcomes can enhance software delivery throughout the entire value chain. Attendees will learn the language of SRE, and gain an appreciation for how everyone—from finance to marketing to product to operations—can participate in developing a customer-centric practice of reliability engineering.

Dave is a Developer Advocate for Google Cloud Platform, aligned to the DevOps community. He loves talking with practitioners: listening to stories, telling stories, sharing a healthy cry. Prior to Google, he was the CTO of OvationTix/TheaterMania, a tech startup in the performing arts industry, where he specialized in feeding memory to Java servers. He chose on purpose to live in New Jersey, where he enjoys baking, indie rock, and fatherhood.
